Who are The Aquabats?

According to Twitter (@TheAquabats); “We’re a band of 5 heroes-since 1994!”.

They should know!

Why did you buy this album?

Another purchase with the purpose of entertaining a (then) 4 year old.

What’s it like?

This is step further away from their ska-pop roots, ditching the founding horn section completely in favour of guitar led pop-punk / rock / new wave. Songs are still pop culture packed, with titles such as ‘Nerd Alert!‘, ‘Mechanical Rickshaw!‘, and ‘Awesome Forces!‘ giving you the idea that these may not be filled with deep and meaningful lyrics…

After listening to it now, do you (still) like this album?

As our eldest appears to like this album more than the other two Aquabats albums we have, I’ve heard this quite a lot…

I do still like it. It’s got a real sense of fun and a relentless energy all the way through, and doesn’t take it self too seriously, despite some serious musical chops.

Any stand-out tracks?

I’d go for ‘Tiger Rider vs. the Time Sprinkler!‘, and ‘Look at Me (I’m a Winner)!‘, whereas the younger Mr. Kelly would go for ‘Meltdown!‘ and ‘Fashion Zombies!‘.

Yes, all tracks on this album have exclamation marks as part of their titles!

Rating out of 10?

8/10.
