Who is/are Barenaked Ladies?

As I’ve spent the last few posts not providing any information, here’s some that won’t involve you leaving this page for an outside source…

When this album was made,  they were a quintet made up of Steven Page (vocals), Ed Robertson (vocals/guitars), Kevin Hearn (vocals/keyboards/guitars), Jim Creeggan (vocals/bass/guitar), and Tyler Stewart (vocals/drums).

More later…

Why did you buy this album?

As we’ve established by now, my wife and I are fans of BNL, so we’ll buy every new release.

What’s it like?

Another live album! This time, an edited release, similar to ‘Rock Spectacle‘, rather than the full live show on ‘Barenaked For The Holidays Tour Live‘. On the plus side, this means it’s condensed onto one CD. On the other hand, it’s not a full gig…

After listening to it now, do you (still) like this album?

It’s good, as it’s BNL live. It’s nice to have the adlibs in this time, unlike ‘Rock Spectacle‘, and there are interesting variations in the older songs.

As with ‘…Are Me‘, and ‘…Are Men‘, I’ve tended to pass this one by for the earlier or later albums. After listening again, I’m not sure why. It won’t replace ‘Barenaked For The Holidays Tour Live‘ as the BNL live album of choice, but it’s likely to get a fair bit more play from now own.

Any stand-out tracks?

This album opens with ‘One Week‘, given a new arrangement that add a bit of interest to an old song. ‘The Old Apartment‘ and ‘Brian Wilson‘ appear again, and will always get love, and newer songs ‘Bank Job‘ and ‘Wind It Up‘ are definitely worth a listen.

Rating out of 10?

8/10. A fairly consistent run of scores…
